Vibration Awareness

Vibration Awareness
This Vibration Awareness eLearning course provides comprehensive training on the risks associated with exposure to vibration in the workplace and the practical measures needed to control those risks. It covers both hand-arm vibration and whole-body vibration, helping learners understand how prolonged or frequent exposure to vibration from tools, machinery or vehicles can lead to long-term health conditions. Learners will explore legal expectations, hazard identification, risk assessment and control strategies that reduce vibration exposure and support safer work practices.
Course Aims
The primary aims of the Vibration Awareness course are to:
- Explain the effects of vibration on the human body, including conditions such as Hand-Arm Vibration Syndrome (HAVS) and musculoskeletal disorders
- Raise awareness of common sources of workplace vibration, including powered hand tools, plant machinery and vehicles
- Clarify legal and organisational responsibilities for managing vibration risks under UK health and safety expectations
- Provide guidance on assessing vibration risk and implementing control measures such as equipment selection, maintenance and work planning
- Encourage safe working behaviours and monitoring to help protect workers from avoidable harm
Key Learning Outcomes
By the end of this 45-minute awareness course, learners will be able to:
- Understand what vibration is and how it can affect health, including short- and long-term impacts
- Identify sources of hand-arm and whole-body vibration in the workplace
- Recognise legal duties and organisational expectations for managing vibration exposure
- Apply practical risk control measures, including task rotation, tool choice, equipment maintenance and exposure reduction techniques
- Demonstrate awareness of early symptoms of vibration-related health effects and explain when to report concerns
