Course Aims
The primary aims of the Hazardous Substances (COSHH) course are to:
- Introduce what constitutes a hazardous substance and why they pose health risks in the workplace.
- Explain the purpose and scope of COSHH regulations, including legal duties for employers and employees.
- Raise awareness of how hazardous substances can enter the body (for example via inhalation, skin contact or ingestion) and the associated health effects.
- Provide understanding of key elements of COSHH risk management, such as hazard identification, risk assessment and control measures.
- Support safe work practices, including the use of safety data sheets (SDS), appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and emergency procedures.
